Superintendent’s Report: The Board of Education welcomed the recommendation and appointment of Mr. Justin Grossman as the next Principal of Irving Primary School following a comprehensive search process that included input from parents, staff, administrators, and Board members. The Board also received a presentation on the district's Chronic Absenteeism Corrective Action Plan, outlining strategies to improve student attendance through early intervention, family engagement, and data-informed decision making. Finance and Facilities:  The Board approved several contracts for professional development including All In for Inclusive Education training, Handle with Care and Right to Know training, You Science, which is a College and Career Readiness Platform for HS students, training for administrators on the teacher evaluation process and Linkit training for staff. The board also approved the county application for the modulars at Irving, change order requests for the Bartle structural renovation and Pre-K classroom renovation, contracts for asbestos abatement, athletic transportation, and athletic supplies, and acceptance of the remaining grant funds from the HP Athletic Boosters (thank you, Boosters!) for the baseball field renovation. Finally, the committee report included updates on current projects. The Bartle structural renovation is almost complete, the Pre-K classroom renovation is well underway, and the geothermal leak at Irving has been repaired.

Policy and Regulations: The Board of Education conducted a first reading of revisions to Policy 5516 – Student Use of Internet-Enabled Devices and Regulation 5516 – Student Use of Internet-Enabled Devices. The proposed updates would establish a comprehensive prohibition on student use of personal internet-enabled devices at the high school during both instructional and non-instructional time. The Board welcomes feedback from parents, guardians, students, and community members before the second reading and potential adoption of the policy and regulation at the August Board of Education meeting.
