Superintendent’s Report: During the Superintendent’s report we recognized middle school student Najiyah Wilson during our Student Spotlight presentation led by Caitlin Brady, celebrating her accomplishments and contributions to the school community. The Board also received an informative presentation from Lisa Sacca on the district’s math program adoption for K-5. Click here to review that presentation. There was an additional presentation from Dr. Susca focused on strengthening rigor and instructional practices at the elementary level. Click here to view the elementary rigor presentation. Lastly, we celebrated and thanked our two student representatives, Bree Zavala and Lami Lee, for their dedication, thoughtful engagement, and commitment to representing the voices of our students throughout the school year.
Curriculum and Instruction: The Board approved two important student support initiatives designed to strengthen transitions and postsecondary readiness. The Summer College Bootcamp will provide current high school juniors with targeted guidance and support throughout the college application process, helping students prepare for the next step in their educational journey. In addition, the Board approved the Middle School Welcome Academy, funded through the SBYSP grant, to support incoming middle school students as they transition into a new school environment and build connections before the start of the school year.
Equity and Excellence: The Board passed the “Resolution Urging Relief from Rising Public School Employee Health-Care Costs” as part of its continued commitment to equity, excellence, and fiscal responsibility. Escalating health-care costs continue to place significant pressure on school district budgets across New Jersey, diverting critical resources away from classroom instruction, student supports, staffing, and programming. Through the adoption of this resolution, the Board is advocating for meaningful and sustainable solutions that protect educational opportunities for students, support employees and families, and preserve the long-term financial health of public school districts and the communities they serve.
Finance and Facilities: The Board approved a number of facilities projects, including replacing 2 boilers, removing a water tank, additional electrical work, and an additional exterior door, all at Bartle as part of the on-going structural repair. At Irving, work is continuing on the renovation of the preschool classroom, with the approval of a sink and exterior door, along with the approval of the purchase of additional preschool playground equipment. A number of different coordinated transportation and purchasing agreements were approved to provide opportunities for potential cost savings.
Personnel: Please join us in welcoming the following new staff:
