Superintendent’s Report: During the Superintendent’s Report, I shared a statement with the Board and community regarding the high school student walkout that occurred two weeks ago. I acknowledged both the thoughtful civic engagement demonstrated by our students and the importance of maintaining safety, clear expectations, and accountability when actions extend beyond established school protocols.

Due to inclement weather and the subsequent adjustment of the Board meeting date, staff recognitions originally scheduled for this meeting will be postponed until the June 22nd Board of Education meeting to ensure the appropriate opportunity for celebration and acknowledgment.

I also presented the Mid-Year Report on the Student Safety Data System (SSDS), reviewing district data from September through December and providing an overview of trends, reporting requirements, and our continued focus on maintaining safe and supportive school environments. Curriculum and Instruction: The Board of Education approved an update to the 2025-2026 school calendar to open schools on March 20, 2026 as an early dismissal day to make up for an emergency closure on February 24, 2026. In addition to this calendar adjustment, the Board approved several Curriculum and Instruction items, including field trip requests, a 7th-grade science ecology unit collaboration at the Middle School, and multiple university student placements for clinical hours and internships.

Finance and Facilities: Notable board approvals include contracted professional development, wall padding replacement for the high school gym, additional funding for the Bartle structural repairs, and an updated long range facilities plan. The committee report discussed highlights from the preliminary budget presentations from the Educational Services department, Humanities, STEM, Facilities, Technology and Athletics. The committee also reported that the Bartle boy’s bathroom is nearing completion, and construction on the Pre-K classroom at Irving will begin the Friday before spring break. Finally, the committee discussed forecasted increases in health insurance premiums due to rising prescription claim costs. We encourage you to listen to the full report via our Youtube channel, but keep in mind the proposed budgets discussed are highly tentative and subject to change.
