Superintendent’s Report: Dr. Susca shared that the first few days of school have gone very well, particularly with the implementation of the new cell phone ban, which students and staff are adjusting positively. She also provided updates on safety and security measures across the district, and gave a brief report on the Champions after-school program, noting they are actively working to hire additional staff in order to serve more families currently on the waitlist.
Curriculum and Instruction: Bartle will be piloting two math curricula, Eureka Math (EM2) and ClearMath, for one unit later in the year. Based on teachers’ feedback, we will look to adopt one the following school year. The Board approved new report cards for Irving and Bartle that reference student success with respect to key NJ Student Learning Standards at each grade. Bartle will also share progress reports based on benchmark assessments this year for math, similar to what was provided in ELA last year.
Finance and Facilities: The Board approved the hiring of contractors for interpretation services, as well as for professional development related to Touch Math and Universal Design for Learning. It was reported that facility projects for the Bartle Structural Repair and bathroom, along with the renovation of the baseball fields are moving along as planned. Change orders were approved for additional work needed on the Bartle Structural Repairs, while continuing to be within the original budget.
